Favourite Photo Fiday 10/1/14

Something a bit different this week.  I like a bit of bug chasing for some macro photos, but rarely get time to do much of it these days when chasing after small people!

The other day (what we think is) a type of dragonfly landed on our watering pipes in the front yard and happily posed for photos for me. I love photos of dragonflies but they are hard to catch as they move pretty fast. This one let me get up pretty close and I got quite a few good pics.

If anyone knows exactly what it is, let me know! It’s not as colourful as the normal dragonflies we see so maybe it’s a different type or a female.  Anyway he/she is kind of cute 🙂

  1. Nic,

IMHO it is of the Order Diptera, Family Asilidae, commonly known as a Robber Fly.
Like a dragon fly it is a predatory insect however the dragon fly has two distinct sets of wings held perpendicular from the body.
